Help identifying wire

99 ranger 4.0L OHV

Looks like a ground wire? The other end is going toward the rear of the engine near the bell housing.

Any idea what this wire does or where it is supposed to be connected?

Definitely looks like a ground wire. One end maybe connected to the engine.. the other should be connected to the body or frame?

Yep, a ground. Like Ryan said. It is probably the one that goes to the metal under the cowl panel at the back of the engine bay
