mystery motor

Hi y'all, I've got an 81 ranger with a mystery V8 in it. yeah I know and I only picked it up for 700 bucks. sweet yeah? got a question. I'm pretty sure its the water pump but I want to be sure. Over heated yesterday did everything I'm supposed, pulled the little lever on the radiator to fill the overflow, added water let it cool down and it started right up drove home etc. but now I've got a little teeny leak behind a pulley. no oil in it or anything. no water in the oil. (see daddy did teach me a few things). am I right in guessin on the water pump?

thanks!!!!

Yes, that reads like the water pump seal has failed.

On the under side of a water pump is a "weep" hole, if(when) the seal for the shaft fails, coolant will leak out that hole.

Ford 302(5.0l) was a popular V8 to swap into a Ranger
