PA for CB radio

i got a PA for the cb i got and it doesn't seem too loud but thats the only kind i can find online. Would you think its the microphone on the CB itself? its a cobra 19 with the original microphone.

any ideas?

Many radios use the volume control to vary the PA output.

The Mic can have an affect on the PA output, the speaker which you are talking about can be almost anything.

How about a power microphone ?

That will increase not only the PA Circuit output but also the CB output, not in wattage but in modulation level.

The link you have should work and you can’t beat the price, BUT…
Remember that the noise picked up by the Mic will transmit over the CB when driving.
His is the one I run and would suggest to you or something like it:

Astatic RD104E Road Devil Power & Noise Canceling Microphone - Electronics Superstore www.WalcottCB.com

Any of the Astatic Mics are the top of the line, IMHO, there are black ones and silver ones but the RED one fits best.
Astatic makes other models look them over.
Watch for two things Powered/Amplified and Noise Canceling.
The RED Devil is a very good Noise Canceling Microphone.

Turner makes a good quality Mic also.
Most of the CB Radio Manufacturer’s Mics are just lower quality Mics made by the top Microphone Manufacturers.

Luck to ya.

I'll probably buy one like that later. i don't want to spend that much money on a microphone right now but its definantly on my list. I found the cobra mic for 15 bucks free shipping so ill probably buy that one...walmart FTW haha

Good it should work fine.

Power Mics are not illegal, it is always how they are used that is considered wrong.

I just dug my old one out of the basement and realized it just has a little foot long stub of a wire coming out of it as I had to cut it out of my wrecked jeep. So now I have to figure out a replacement for the cord. I know it's a 3.5mm jack but I'm not sure if its mono or stereo. Its prob mono but I don't have any mono 3.5mm cords laying around. Does it matter what I use?

First off are we talking the External Speaker or the DC Power Wires ?
Speaker wire - The plug is mono, and should take just about any 3.5 mm Mono Plug, the wire itself can be just about anything but regular speaker wire will be best.
DC Pwr Wire - there should be a red (+) and a Black (-) wires coming out of the CB, the length is not relevant. all you need to do is add some 18 or 16 gauge wire to it.

When installing if you are tapping off of an internal pwr source make sure to add an in-line fuse in the new pwr wires; if using the battery (the right way) for power make sure you add a fuse close to the battery in at least the red (+) wire.

Sorry if this got carried away but just tried to cover the bases.

I ended up finding a cord, it was the PA speaker wire btw.

And yeah, def get the inline fuse for the power wire.

Now i just gota figure out how i want to mount it as I got the CB from a thrift store with no brackets. It just stuffed under my armrest right now with the mic hanging on the back wall of the cab....

Does anyone know if its even legal to put in a PA speaker on a non-emergency vehicle?

The mounts are available from most CB Shops.
The PA Speaker, as with other CB Equipment it is all in the way you use it.
