I have a question for any of you electrical jockey's on here... I had to replace my seatbelts on both passenger and driver side.. due to a rather stupid mistake, but;

After I installed everything and went to unbolt the seat after unplugging the seatbelt sensor.. I found that the sensor is actually part of the seatbelt recepticle on the seat.. and the seatbelts I purchased as an OEM replacement don't have the sensor wires coming out of it. Is it possible to somehow jump the sensor at the plugs to trick it into thinking the seatbelts are plugged in?

I havent stripped any wires or examined the plugs.. but would it be as simple as possibly cutting off the plug, and sautering a connetor between two of the wires there?

It needs to be done ASAP, considering that my seatbelts wont plug into the seat recepticle without putting in the newer plug.. and I dont want to have to drive around listening to a constant beep or sensor going off even though I have a new seatbelt installed and in use..

You're replacing the tensioners? the seat belt female plug is attached to the tensioner as a permanent setup.

 

A 2001 Ranger uses a 4-pin connector on the driver side - 2 for the latch switch and 2 for the pretensioner (part of the Restraints system). The passenger side should also have a round 4-positon connector but only 2 are used for the 2 wires for the pretensioner.

You cannot simply jump wires together to simulate the missing pretensioners. The Restraints Module is looking for a voltage level that verifies the correct resistance in the pretensioner. Electrically it should be possible to fool it by installing the equivalent resistance in the circuit but the correct fix is to install the OE 2001 belts with the pretensioners. Expect to get Restraints codes 46 and 47 along with either an airbag light or beep tone.

The driver's beltminder warning is a different story. If it is being activated, just consult your owners manual for instructions on how to turn it off. I thought that having the connector unplugged would have taken care of that though.

 

Yeah.. I have actually been outside the last half hour grinding the newer belts male end down to fit inside the female connector on the seat.. I dont want to bypass it if its going to be that big of a securiy issue.. as I noticed upon flipping the seat over (the tensioner) Just sort of aggrivating having to deal with this right now... as I dont feel like reinstalling the OEM belt and having to deal with that.. darnit, lol

 

On a second note... I am having a hell of a time trying to grind this thing down to fit.. and slowly rethinkng options.. does anyone happen to have a prt number and/or pricing on a replacement OEM belt for the passeneger/driver side (They usually come in pairs I believe) The current ones I purchased were $85 from autopartswarehouse and are a great quality.. but ugh, this not fitting into the femal epart is an issue right now.
