need help: stoplight switch

alright i am in the process of installing a new stoplight switch in my truck, incase you aren't familiar with what i am talking about it is the switch on the top part of brake pedal.
here is my question, when i took the old one off, there was a plastic washer thing that fell out. and now when i go to put the new one in, i can't figure out where that part fits, and without it on there the brakelights still dont work. so if someone can relate, meaning they have done this before, then i would appreciate some help.

and i already checked my fuses so i am pretty sure this is the problem.

hrrrrm, i did my brake switch in the parking lot of DeVry before class one morning. So I dont fully remember a washer.

Do you have a pic? Do you have the instalation instructions with the new switch maybe?

nah it didn't come with any instructions. and idk if pics would help because i didn't even notice this little piece until after i took the whole thing off it just like fell out of no where. i'll try and get a picture to help describe what i'm talking about though. however i am starting to think it doesn't have anything to do with this switch.
