'02 Ranger just will not start?

I really need some advice! My son's 2002 Ranger that just suddenly would not crank.Ran fine, then nothing.Turning the ignition on I get nothing, lights, instuments and radio all work fine.Tried jumping off, charged battery nothing.Jumped screwdriver across solenoid it spins the starter and turns the motor over but still wont crank.Replaced ignition switch no good.I have ran out of ideas.Looking for some expert advice what to do or look for next. Thanks for any help.

it almost sounds like the teeth are chewed off of the flywheel somewhere...or you have a loose connection somewhere

Okay, this may sound stupid,but.. if my motor is turning as if to crank crossing the solenoid, should it not crank that way if my starter is spinning ?or does it not engage the drive ur talking about?

it will still spin the starter gear but if the starter drive does not push the starter gear into the flex plate it will not spin the engine over to start it

Silly question...when you jump the solenoid are you doing it with the key in the run position? If not try that. Another thing I would do is have someone check to make sure you're getting power to the signal wire at the solenoid when you turn the key to start. If you do then make sure that the power is making it to the other side.

are you saying that the starter cranks the engine over but the engine will not fire OR?

the starter spins but will not engage the flywheel ( if so )

then your solenoid has been heat seized

your starter solenoid has been heat seized

time to go to the parts store and buy a new starter

( make sure you dis-connect the positive battery connector )
