strange noise

does anyone know what it means when your truck goes whaaaaaaa.
Every so often I notice a high pitched noise when i am driving. It usually happens when i am 20-30 mph and 3000 rpm. I have notice it most often when i turn or accelerate. i am thinking it might be the transmission or a front wheel. The wheels have different parts on the bottom of where they pivot to steer. It looks like one might have been replaced. I think it might be (and probably is) the transmission because it does not always happen when i make a turn. The best i can come up with is that it is trying to shift up and i am not going fast enough so maybe something is slipping. It is my 1st vehicle and has 130,000mi , automatic trans , 4x4 . I don't know a lot about the transmission and would really appreciate any help.

Thanks

Only a few times . Not often enough to get me really concerned but often enough to not let me forget about it.
