Question on cb mounts (advice)
07 ford ranger ext cab
I want to mount my cb itself to the roof between the sun visors. the antenna i am thinking of getting is a 4ft tunable firestik. the problems is where to mount
1. i have a canvas tonnaeu cover that i dont want to loose. so bed/tool box mounts are out.
2. stake mounts- wont look nice cause the rail slopes out so the tip will be to the side.
3. dont have headache rack or light bar and dont really want one.
4. bumper mount- only work for 102" whip and dont want that.
5 roof mount is my only option i think. but where?
im thinking dead center all around for ground plane. found 2 mounts

^^^ good ideas. but i think the alon mount on tailgate would get in the way. and idk if i like the hood/fender mount.
i just want to see one mounted on roof and what they say about it, but with spring and QD the tip will be dang near 10' in air.
i did fine the stake pocket mount that sticks over the side and can be bent to straight

The first Stud Mount is the better one… for either the roof or any bracket mounting.

The second uses Firewire from Firestik and it is not the best connection for coax, can get dirt in the connection and I do not think the coax is good quality.
Where to mount the antenna is a individual choice, some use the Frt Fender Mounts, some have mounted Ball Type Mounts to the rear of the Cab, some use the Tail Gate Mount.
Buy one type of mount and try it.
The roof mount, even with the hole in the roof, should give the best over all performance but every truck is different and what works best on one is not the best on another.
Me, without a Headache Rack the Roof Mount would be seriously considered.
You might try a Frt Fender Mount and see how it works, it might do just what you want and you save the hole in the roof, do a temp install and see if it works for you and what you plan on doing with the CB; you lose nothing but a little time and coax.
Good grounding is a must.
Good Coax is a must either Belden or Time MicroWave, NOT RAT SHAQ !
Make sure your Antenna Mount is grounded the best.
Get the system tuned…
