Check Engine Light

I had to replace the rear sensor on the rear axle because the truck transmission changed hard, the speedometer was off and the abs light was on. Also the check engine light came on before I changed it. Now it will not go off. How do I get it off? It's on a 2000 ranger V6.

Unplug the negative cable, turn on your headlight switch for 10 seconds and then reattach the negative cable. and it will be off.

If you've got a check engine light on then get the codes read and find out if anything else is going on. That negative battery cable trick works to reset the computer but that light will come back on pretty quick if something else is wrong.

It will drain any remaining voltage in the electrical system causing the EEPROM in the computer to erase.

ahh, nice to know. i've also understood that if you touch the positive and negative cable ends together for a few seconds it would do essentially that as well.
i have used that method on vw's but not on the ford sofar.
