Does anyone else have this problem. It seem that when my truck is cold, meaning that when i just start it and drive off..Morning and after work.. My brake pedal is VERY touchy.

I barley press it and they just grab.. If i hit them hard enough it will lock up.

I don't normally just start and go.. I do let it warm up, but in the rare case when i do, It does it all the time..

Any ideas on this?

 

Mine does that same thing, but pretty much when it's wet out. I have vids of my rear locking up. weirdstuff. abs problem??

I had this happen on a new 92 S-10. The rears would lock at the slightest touch of the brake pedal.

Turned out the rear shoes were glazed. The fix was to do about 3-4 hard 60-10mph braking slowdowns.

Once the dealership did that it worked fine.

brakes could be glazed or there couild be rust in the drums and when you push the pedal down it will want to grab due to the rust in there.....same thing happens to jeep cherokee's.

 

My truck has done this since new. Cold mornings above freezing. (33-45) Is the worst.

The moisture condensates on the shoes and causes the rear drums to grab when they touch. Just get used to it. I will do a test stop or two so i don't slide into traffic.

Not much you can do about it other than a disc swap.

Like i said, if i let it warm up.. it doesn't seem to do it.

I got a gravel slightly down hill drive way that has a 20 concrete section just before the street. If i don't ride my brakes i will slide out into the street. Making a horrible gravel grinding sound. Its fun, just not with traffic.


I don't mind it any other time tho.

 

Mine does it when it's wet out, mostly at slow speeds. Always has since new, and its irritating. I think I took it to the dealer the first time and they did something, most likely deglazing the rear pads. It seems to me it's only one side, but i can't remember if it's the right or left.

 

Its caused from the rust on the rotors/drums (sitting overnight or a few hrs). Mine does the same thing.

 

its not from rust.. like everyone is saying it goes away if you let it warm up.. i have the same problem as well.. i thought my brakes were bad.. honestly i like when they do this cause i can stop, normaly my brakes suck.. i have to push them to the floor to stop, it seems like some times you ride the brake to a red light and the truck just still dosent want to stop you have to push it to the floor.. other times its fine. i think i have air in my lines but i too am having the same grippy brake problem when its cold and wet out..

 

I've had the same prob... just barely touch the brakes and the wheels lock up and skid
only happens the first few times after condensation.

 

i dont know what it is.. but i LOVE IT!!!! it sucked with 33s but with 35s its great

my brakes completely suck so the days they grab hard is a nice change

 

Here are a couple of things to try.
1. Back up and hit your brakes hard a few times. Your auto adjuster might be acting up and this could free it up. Many times we forget to do this and the adjusters get rusted/frozen up over time.
2. Before you park the truck for the night ride the brakes just to dry out the pads. Your pads may be getting wet and when the weather cools then it acts like they are frozen/sticking.
3. Set your E brake and try moving. Your emergency brake linkage could be acting up also.

I'll do a test stop too before getting to the end of the road and entering traffic. Just another one of those Ford Ranger issues.

Just lightly ride your brakes for a few hundred feet.

 

theres something wrong with your system.... when my truck was stock it stopped great.
