Drums 2007 & up
Anyone having drum issues? I was told today that I need new drums with only 21k on the truck. Oh course, I called BS and ranted on cause they are full of it but, just curious if anyone has had similar issues. I took it in last Dec for squealing brakes and again for same thing. I'm really angry now!

I went in with brakes squealing, 2nd time in a year. First time, the clean out the brake dust. This time cleaned out brake dust and smooth out the inner drum services. Said they are only allowed to do that one then Ford says replace em. WTF? Thats BS imo and I was especially angry cause they tried blaming it on me an the way I drive. They don't know how I drive! I don't slam on my brakes. Idiots!

Sounds to me that because the driver is a she they're trying to take advantage of her.
I think they put on cheap shoes and never degreased the new drums before they installed them.
There is no reason a set of drums can't last 50k.
OH LOOK ! A girl driving in ! $$chaa ching$$

In my limited experience (30+ years of driving/wrenching)
If they feel the need to turn the drums , then the drums are worn out and must be replaced.
New shoes will not conform properly to the larger diameter of the drum and will wear prematurely.
So you can go back in 15k and pay them to do it again.
And why the h*ll isn't you or your husband fixing this ? It's not that difficult , only an hour or two the first time.

Well I'm going to pickup Taz tonight from the dealer. They ended up replacing the drums. He said the drums was "warped" so to speak and measured at the level where they needed replacing. Pretty strange but when I look back at my records.....I bought it with 7k on it, @ 14k I'm to the dealer with squealing breaks, and now almost another 7k later, same thing. Weird ain't it....anywho....he's fixed and I'll be glad to bring him back home!

He didn't try to sell me anything! You must have had bad experiences with dealer techs or something and quit being negative in my thread
Went to pick up Taz and was never happier to see him. Shew, after driving the hubby's truck yesterday and this Fukus loaner they gave me, I was TOTALLY happy to get back in Taz and drive him. He sooooo missed me.
He's all fixed and is tucked in bed at home. We had a heart to heart and knows future mods are on the way so he was fine with having a sleep over at Ford,...............although he did mention he felt "violated".

in OTRtechs defense, he isnt being that negative. Iam a tech at a Ford dealership and i know the crap they try to tell you and the BS they try to sell, especially to women. however, most of the women driven vehicles i work on, the brakes are WASTED because of their driving habits. not saying that yours were, just saying i know what they will tell you to make a sale

Trust me, I know about the world of mechanics and women. And they hate it when I woman knows a lil something about what they are talking about. I am far from a bad driver. I think I got jipped on the drums when I bought the truck. Who knows, what matters is that its fixed and nothing outta my pocket. I even told them to go get the drums, I wanted to see em. hehehe They were like "what"? Oh well....its done, thank goodness!
Oh and I was only teasing him. I appreciate all the comments.

You can turn the drums as much as you want aslong as they don't exceed the maximum diameter.
A bit off-topic but it does have to do with women and brakes. A lady came in with an Impala SS complainin her brakes were making noise and when we pulled all the wheels off the drivers rear disc was SEPERATED from the hub. It was spinning freely and the caliper pistons had completely eaten through one side of the disc and through the vents too.

Right, my exceeded that limit. Was at 2106. All fixed....yippee!
And there are a lot of women who are bad with vehicles BUT there are also men that are bad with them. I for one, am not bad on my vehicles and anyone that knows me will vouch I'm not hard on my truck. Now my Mustang is another story.........but only at the track! LMAO
