2003 Mazda B3000 turn signals only work sometimes and go out after some time
Hello, my turns signals recently started to fail. When I push the switch up or down, sometimes either side will work but then the corresponding turn signal light eventually (5-8 flashes) goes out and the blinking arrow in the dash turns off.
If I turn on either turn signal again after the first time, the lights usually don't work again after sometime.
could this be a turn signal bulb that's going out or a turn signal switch?
I read that the turn signal relay is what keeps the lights on but the turn signal switch is what turns them off and on and activates them.

Turn on the 4-way flashers, key can be off these have power all the time
Walk around the vehicle to make sure all bulbs are working, and the bulbs on the dash
4-way flashers use the same wires as turn signals, so this also tests the wires, and part of the same Flasher unit
If all the bulbs are OK then replace the Multi-Function switch, the turn signal stalk, they do wear out and are not hard to replace
If the 4-ways also don't work then replace the Flasher unit, its under the dash between steering column and drivers door, its BLUE can't miss it
Turn on turn signal if possible and then listen for the "clicking" under the dash, you can also feel it "clicking" using your hand

Testing
The relay is a pin 5 relay.
I tested the ohms of the positive and ground pin on the control side of the relay and the value was within spec. So I take it that the control side is indeed being energized.
So then I hooked up the positive and ground pin of the relay to a 18V drill battery. When I touched the positive pin with the positive lead coming from the battery,.
The relay clicked.
This tells me that the switch side of the relay is activating.
However, when I hooked up a test light to the ground side of the battery and touched pin 57 ('accessory signal' pin) on the switch side of the relay, the test light didn't turn on.
Which tells me that there's a voltage drop between pin 30 and pin 57 on the switch side.
also there wasn't any resistance between pin 57 and pin 30 on the switch side of the relay.
I concluded that I have a bad relay.
I mean given that in it's lifetime a relay will click thousands of times, I'm sure the switch circuit of the relay wears out over time until it can no longer send enough power and thus properly power the turn signals.
Hence, why my lights would only sometimes work and then go out.
