Read a bit further in the how-to: on the last page, under the section titled "2004+ Owners Please Note:" it says:

Speed Sensor Input (Explorer Gray/Black at console)-
2003-back Ranger: Gray/Black at GEM
2004-on Ranger: Gray/Black at Smart Junction Box (brown connector)

That addendum to the instructions was written in 2004 and needs an update.

For 2005~2006, Ford eliminated the unused branch of the gray/black wire that went to the SJB in 2004. The gray/black still originates at the PCM and still goes to the back of the instrument cluster and also to the 4WD module (if equipped). If you have a 2004~2006 4x4, the 4WD module should be next to the radio where the GEM was on the 2001~2003 Ranger shown in John's instructions.

For 2007~2008, the Ranger got the 170-pin PCM and new harnesses. The new VSS color is violet/orange and it is under the hood between the PCM and the speed control servo.

I dont have 4x4

I looked on the internet and saw a PCMmodule that is located under the hood on the driver side firewall behind the windsheild bottle

I looked at mine and there is a gray/black wire there

The gray/black wire goes from PCM pin 68 through the firewall to the back of the instrument cluster for the speedometer. You could tap it right at the PCM or behind the cluster or you could dig around in the large wire bundle where the engine compartment wires come through the firewall to the dash harness.

Can you get to it by just looking up by the gas pedal I went out there and saw a big butt load of wires and there was a gray/black wire
Or am I just seeing another wire

only other problem is the dome light orange/green wire can go to the dimmer switch on the driver side but where do I hook theother wire fromthe ohc at

I haven't worked on a 2004 so I can't say for sure. There should be a very obvious place on the driver side where 50+ wires come through the firewall to the dash harness.

If you are asking about the black/light blue, it goes to the stock dome light.
