Brakes grab after using parking brake.

I was working on my truck on a hill and applied the parking brake. Since then it seems the drums/drum is stuck. I don't know if they both are, doing it...

Anyway since then I put the truck in reverse drive a bit, hit the brakes, and put it in drive. Once I have it in drive the brakes aren't locked anymore until I press the brake pedal again. They lock up like. Anyone have an idea of what that might be? I'm thinking it's something inside of the drum of one of the sides. I really don't know what to think honestly.

If you haven't been using your parking brakes regularly (at least once a week) then the parking brake springs (inside the drum) seize up.

Since you are auto I'm assuming you don't use them often. Or at all.

You probably locker both your brakes.

I did the same thing when I got the truck. I burned through the rear brakes to get around then I went to a shop and they replaced the parking brake lines, the drums, shoes, and all the hardware.

You will need to do the same.

I just bought the truck, and I haven't been driving it like this. I have no idea how often the brake was used, but it probably wasn't often. I guess I'll have to pull it apart and have a look this weekend.

I just picked up a '97 Ranger last weekend, 4.0L standard, and a few days later I discovered it was doing the exact same thing. In fact, I found that one of the previous owners (or donkey, as I prefer to call him) actually tied the e-brake pedal with tie-wire to prevent it from being used. I've taken the truck to my local shop to have the e-brake cable and springs properly repaired and/or adjusted. The tech thinks he may be able to lubricate and adjust the cable without resorting to the full cost of parts replacement. I'll let you know the result when I get it back tomorrow.
