automatic transmission gear indicator

how do you adjust the tranny gear position inticator or whatever its called below the speedometer mine is alitle off and my unce told me there is a slide on a cable but i couldn't find it can someone tell me or i will just ask him again tomorrow

not sure what year truck you have but they are under the dash mounted on the steering column. its white. you turn the dial and it moves the needle.

i have a 2000 so do i remove the steering column shroud or the lower dash

nope its under the dash. you should see it without removing any panels if i am remembering right

you have to take the lower panel off and the steel reinforcement behind it off to get to the dial......when I get on my computer I will post the picture I took of it while works g on swapping in the manual trans.....

The dial is directly on the bottom of the column.....if you find the shift indicator cable and follow it you will find the dial.....

thanks so i have to take off lower dash and the steel panel behind it right??

Here's a pic of the indicator cable thumbwheel with the knee bolster and trim panel removed. It's the black wheel in the white bracket, dead center.

If you knew in advance exactly where it is, it would not be that hard to reach under the dash and find it by feel without removing the bolster. It could even be adjusted that way. However, it might be hard to do that the first time around.

Yes. It is a thumbwheel and you turn it until the gear indicator is where you want it.
