You just need to get enough slack to get the end back to the opening in the connector. Mine were frozen when I did this but spray lube and patience should free one of the ends up. If the wrong one comes off at least you can get it out and work on it at a better angle.
That connector is tapered so they will stick. Maybe a sturdy set of needle nose pliers with the ends on both cable end cylinders will free one up.
You may be able to pry the connector apart GENTLY on the center side of the cable you're removing. I'd go with the soaking first.
