Can DRL be added?

My new-to-me 2009 Ranger does not have DRLs. From what I've gathered from the innernets, the factory wiring harness has the capability to 'add' DRL. But there's nothing I can find that explains how.

So is it possible, and if so... what parts would I need and what steps do I take?

I believe that is something the dealer can turn on by hooking up their computer.

It's also my understanding that once it's been turned on, they can't be turned off.

It's controlled by the SJB (smart junction box)

Forscan baby. Google it. Very easy to use. Not sure what ‘as built data’ is for the Ranger, I only
glanced at mine. But my ‘19 F250 I have changed many things myself, as have others.

edit: it CAN be turned back off. Anything can. It’s all coding. But you’d have to find a list of options/changes somewhere. Go to the Ford Truck Enthusiast website, search forscan. You’ll see it stickied in the Superduty Section. For those, others have already compiled a list of changes/options. Not sure about the older Ranger though. I did hook up forscan to my ‘09 and noticed it would be the same, less choices though. But never searched for a list of options.

No workee

Forscan reads my truck as either a 1999 or 2002 Focus with a 1.8l. If I push past that inaccuracy, it returns all sorts of meaningless codes. Such as failure of the rear window wiper, heated windshield failure.....

Just as a heads up

You can disable or enable DRL on a Ford that came with DRL but you can't enable DRL if it didn't come with that option from Factory
You can check with Forscan because maybe it did come with it and its just disabled, but may not have the other hardware if it didn't

Not sure why Forscan doesn't work on your 2009 Ranger

Check at Forscan forum

I checked the forum. The common answer is to deselect Demo Mode. I do that, and the app refuses to connect to the reader.

Interesting. I have only viewed my Ranger on Forscan and not made changes. But it looked the same as everything for my F250. It’ll be a bit before I am back at that stuff with the Ranger
