A/C Off Switch w/ Heater Running in any position !

I have searched this site and two others looking for what I thought was a How-To on putting in a switch to shut off the A/C when you didn’t need it and still run the heater in any position.

Does anyone remember a How-To along this lines ?

OR

Is it possible ?

For 2003, cut the purple wire behind the HVAC control panel and interrupt it with a simple SPST on-off switch. Done.

Old post

AC compressor comes on in Defrost only if AC switch is is off, and that is done to dry the air being blown on to the inside of the windshield to clear it faster.
So not sure why you would not want it on when Defrosting?

If its running in any other setting then there is a control panel issue

i was told and read that the compressor does not kick on in floor only and vent only modes. If you have it bi-lev aka floor and vent it kicks on same with defrost regardless of what the temp **** is set to.

But yes installing a switch above will fix this "issue" (ive done the same on many vehicles - or when it gets wintertime just unplug the compressor clutch electrical connector and it wont kick in) waste of fuel IMO is why I disable them.

Thanks Ron, I knew that but was looking for the fastest way to fit my situation and Bob took care of it.

There are a umber of Modes the Compressor does not kick in on but under defroster Mode... if does and if you are like me I leave it in a Floor Defroster Mode all the time so cutting out the Defroster is what I am dafter in that mode. I can always tuen it on to get the dehumidfiing if needed.

Guess it depends on where you live.
I live in a WET winter climate so need that AC drying the air or takes forever to defrost windows, lol
Like in the old days without AC, gotta get that cloth out to wipe down windshield and hope defrost can keep up after engine/heater warms up

You are right there, when I lived in New England if I didn't run the A/C with the defroster all of the window in the small standard cab would get condensation, even if you didn't need to defrost the ice off, you still would get the fogging !

Now I live in the South West and so far I don't have to run the Defroster much. just the A/C.

Thanks for your input Ron, you like Bob have a lot to share and I appreciate your willingness to do so !
