Disabling the Airbag...

I need to figure out how to disable the airbag in my 2000 Ranger. The passenger side has the switch, but I want to turn off the Driverside. Doenst matter if its a permant shut off or something I can select either will do. Im looking to have the airbag light not on all the time either.

Before someone says something about the safety aspect of doing this, the truck is my trail truck, which is why I want the air bags gone. Of if anyone knows if i can remove the airbags but still use the plastic clading so i dont have a big hole in my dash and wheel.

Can't you just pull the Airbag fuses? I know that is what I am going to do in my Buick, when I switch out to a Grans sport steering wheel with out an airbag. If the light stays on just pull the bulb.

ok well it looks like Fuse 2 in the passenger compartment panel is the Drivers Airbag fuse, theres also one in the under the hood fuse panel, im guessing just remove both of them.

This leaves me with another question. If im going to be pulling the fuses, is there another model ranger that didnt come with an airbag that has the plastic panels to put in place of the airbags? i figure if im not going to be using them i might as well sell them.

all Rangers that have your style steering wheel ('95+) have had airbags......unless you get an aftermarket steering wheel, you will have an airbag there...

There was a Company on the internet that sold factory style steering wheel covers without airbags in them, for People who popped the airbag on older cars and didn't want to spend 1K+ to fix it. I can't remember the name, but If I were you I'd just buy an aftermarket wheel and adapter from grant and save your self the money.

95 Rangers have a driver side airbag only, 96+ have both.

I don't know if it's a direct fit but could probably be adapted.

when i checked the fuse panel it lists only the Airbag module as being associated to that particular fuse.

you can disconnect the passenger side and just leave it in, its a simple clip.

not sure on the drivers side but it has to plug in too, so whats wrong with just unplugging them?
