Gas Guage Help

My gas guage doesn't work. which is fine by me. But I went to get my car inspected and half of the OBD II monitors did not run csaue the vehicle thinks it has no gas. How can I make the vehicle think it has about a half of tank. I heard you could use resistors but I dunno which ones to use and on what wire. My gas tank is in my bed, cause of the air-ride. Please let me know.

btw: it is a 02 ranger ext cab.

Crawl under the truck and look at the underside of the cab , about the area of the drivers seat .
Look for a squarish plug with a bolt in the center.
Remove the bolt and unplug the connector , coat the inside with dielectric grease and reconnect a couple times.
