Tying both factory front hooks together for off-road recovery needs

Well now that i got pulled out today from a single hook, i'll have to hammer and pry my driver's side tow hook back where it belongs. Not a huge deal, it did it's job.

However, I'd like to hear some suggestions of hooking one tow strap to both tow hooks, so i can get pulled atleast evenly on the two.

#1 - possibly hooks or d-shackles on each tow hook, and some 1/2" or so chain (maybe 2ft?) to tie the two together? Will that be safe? 1/2" chain durable enough? What about thickness of the hooks/shackles?

#2 - take my 6' 30,000lb 'Tree Saver', put a d-shackle on each hook and do it that way?

#3 - ???????

Thanks!

id run a chain through the hooks then back on itself, making a triangle, then attach the chain to the strap with a dring.

the chain will be fine with that short of a length, if it snaps it will not do anywhere near as much damage as a long stretch of chain

just get a short strap rated 30000# run it through both hooks then take a shackle and put the loops of the short strap through it and take your long strap and take one end of it through that shackle and the other end on whatever is pulling you out

1, i would never use a chain when being pulled out. Only if your using a hi-lift as a winch.

The last i remember, shove the end of the strap through both hooks, and then stick that end through the other end of rope and slide it all the way down.

I have a 30k# strap, 6footer. But the issue with that one is it won't thread through the hooks where they sit and with the valance one. I think I should go that route with the 6' strap and just get a d-shackle on each end to hook up to the tow hooks.

Yes, use a tree saveer w/o hooks or anything metal. Take the two ends and pul them through each tow hook. Now you will have the strap in the middle of the truck, with the ends sitting on each side. Now touch those together and loop the regular rope through that and make a universal slip not with it. Comes out easy and is very nice, I would take a pic to demonstrate but I have a front hook :)

Well here is what works with the valance off. It may be in my best interest to pull the valance if i plan on going wheeling. Probably safest for the valance and ease of pulling from the hooks. I rather not have to go through that, but i may have to. It is a fairly tight fit to get those big loops through the hooks with the valance off, so i really doubt it'll work with it on. *Sigh*

I can't answer your question but if you HAVE to be able to pull straight without pulling off the bumper, and easily too then your best bet would be a front tow hitch on the truck. The only thing is it is more expensive obviously.

Thanks guys, i guess ill just pull the front valance if i think i may get stuck. Better for the valance and easier to hook up, i'd be pissed if it got torn off! I got the hooks as close as i can get back together, one is about 1/2" more forward than the other, best i can do for the night.

Yea, thats exactly what i was talking about. Instaed of the d-shackle, loop the tow rope through the two ends and slip one end of the tow rope through the other. Thats just a simple knot, comes out easy too.

When i used to do it and didn't have two shackles, i'd just loop though both holes, loop excess thorugh the other holes....blah i can't explaint it...

No need to have a setup on stand by really. if your knee deep in water, your knee deep in water. lol.

Yea i see what cha mean, if i start wheeling without my front valance, that or this way is the good way to go. With the valance on i just cant do jack with a decent width strap.
