trying to locate a few wires under dash

Hey everyone I'm trying to find two wires that are hopefully accessible under my dash on my 2000 ranger xlt.

First off I'm trying to locate the positive for the cargo lights under there. I had the 3rd brake light with cargo's on my truck stock btw. Secondly I'm trying to find the reverse lights wire(it black/pink going into the reverse sockets in the tail light assembly.

I'm thinking it would be cool to tap the cargo's into the dome light so they come on when the doors are opened. Then i have a wig wag flasher that I was planing on using occasionally with the reverse lights when I'm parked on the side of the road helping a landscaper friend of mine.

Anyone know where the two positive wires might be located under the dash?

Thanks.

All you need to do is follow the 04+ cargo lamp third brake light how-to. Doing that will be exactly what you want it to do(on when doors open), and it'll still turn on when you roll the dimmer switch all the way up. The wire color you are looking for is a solid blue(i believe).

Black/pink is the reverse hot all the way up to the engine harness and PCM i believe.

yeah I'm looking to do it under the dash though. Both the cargo wires and dome light have to be there already as they both come on if you roll the dimmer switch all the way up on my truck. Maybe they both run right into the switch?

also I'm wondering if the reverse light wire might be located to the left of the drivers side where a bundle of wires run down into the carpet over the transmission tunnel/drive shaft area. I cant seem to get the bundle spread apart enough to tell if the black/pink is in there and I'm loosing my day light :(

Under the driver seat at that bundle of wires, it should be there. I know the rear signal/brake hots are there....so reverse should be there as well. It splits off that to the taillight harness.

About your third.....you're wanting to do it the hard way, even though it's not that hard. lol. You're making it harder on yourself than you have to. Seriously....snip the far passenger side wire on the third harness on the truck side, get a short chunk of wire crimped or soldered to it, then route it to the dome light, crimp or solder on a ring terminal. If I remember correctly, when sitting in the driver seat, the screw you want to mount the ring terminal to is the front, passenger side screw. Pull the light to confirm, but it's the black thing that is the positive. BAM! Done!

Basically you'll be doing this....

I'm going to do mine one of these days.

If the truck is wired for the cargo lights, I thought the cargo lights does come on with the door and the interior light switch ?

Yeah for some reason ford didn't do it that way in the rangers(I doubt it would have increased cost at all to hook up a few wires). In the f150 and up if you open the doors they come on.

If pre-wired for cargos, the cargos come on with a roll up of the dimmer switch...that's it. I plan on doing the mod like the 04+ guys do. Door open, lights on. Dimmer up, lights on. And soon, push the unlock button, dome, cargo, and parking lights on.

yup that's how mine works exactly. I have a feeling too that both the cargo and dome wires go right into that dimmer switch too. Just haven't gotten around to looking yet. I need to get behind the dash anyways but I've been putting it off lol.

I also just released that if I tap into my reverse lights hot(+) where it comes up in the middle/driver seat area for strobes it wont work correctly with my wig wag style controller because the single wire then splits off into the two reverse lamps once it gets to the end of the truck. Looks like what I would have to do is find some way to new wires for both lights out of the cab and along the rails most likely following the stock harness to the back. Not sure of the best method to do that yet as I'd like to take the easiest route that avoids pulling the carpet up like i did when i ran my sub amp cable up from under the truck
