Brakes just won't stop squealing...

First off, I have an '09 Sport 2WD. W while back I got my front rotors and pads replaced as they were shot (I drive the **** out of my truck :) ). The mechanic put in ceramic rotors and now, for the past year or so, I hear a squeak every time I slow down. My mechanic can't figure it out, he's replaced the pads twice, checked my rear brakes and everything seems to be fine.

Any ideas?

Im pretty sure its just the ceramic brakes that do that. This was a question over on another forum im on and when they got different brakes it went away.

Ceramics tend to make more noise. Inherent in the design. The tradeoff is longer pad life, as they are of a harder compound, and wear slower. Also less brake dust, which is a plus if you don't wash your truck more than a couple times a year like I do.

Try heat baking them to resurface the pads and rotors.

Go drive with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. Go about 25 mph but with the brakes applied (should be about half a brake pedal). Go about 200 ft. Then let off and drive about another 200ft, then repeat for total of 4 to 6 cycles. Then drive around for about 15 min normally using as little braking or no braking if possible (get on the freeway or something). This cools the rotor off. DO NOT JUST PARK THE VEHICLE, THIS WILL WARP YOUR ROTORS.

I suggest doing the cycles in a safe stretch of road with no traffic.

What this does is it heats soaks the pads and rotors until they cannot heat up anymore, then when you drive for 15 min to cool them off, they resurface each other so that the imperfections, and sources of squealing go away. It also bakes out any oils in the pads as well as leaving a thin layer of pad material on the rotors, which improves braking capability.

Another method is to get up 65 mph, then brake to 10mph, accelerate to 65mph, then brake to 10mph, then accelerate to 65mph then brake to 10mpg, then accelerate and drive for about 15 min to cool the rotors and pads off.

technically this is supposed to be done everytime you put new pads/rotors on.

I have done it and it really does get rid of brake squeal (in my case) even on cheapie pads. also gives better pedel feel and braking response.

Thanks! That's a great tip, I'll try it out once it stops raining..probably some time next year -_-

Did you break in the pads\disks? Ceramic disks may last a live time but they still need broken in as do pads.


Normally I'll do about a mile or two of getting up to 55 then riding the breaks down to 45, then slowly back up to 55ish and same thing.

By 2 miles they're broken in (coating from factory is worn off).
Also, did you check to make sure he actually replaced your pads? Why would you take a truck to get breaks changed when its like a 10min\side thing?

I'm...not very good with the mechanical end and would probably tear **** up lol, and no I never broke them in, I was never told to and had no idea I had to beforehand. :(
