code p1409

Failing emissions and getting code p1409.

98 Ranger 4 cyl 2wd. Wondering what is the typical culprit for that code, or the best place to start?

The PCM is reporting that the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid voltage is outside of what's possible when the system is working correctly - either too high or too low.

There are 3 possible causes:
  • Damaged or unplugged wiring between the PCM and the EVR Solenoid
  • Bad EVR Solenoid
  • Bad PCM (Extremely unlikely)
