2.3L DOHC rebuild, crank pulley wont turn

2.3L DOHC lost power going down freeway, engine quit --- thought it was head gasket, started top-end rebuild -- crankshaft pully won't turn with my approx 200 ft-lbs when trying to align to TDC. I guess that is bad-- assumed it should be very easy to turn with plugs out and belt loose, right? guesses? thrown rod? ... I don't have much time and not planning on full rebuild... if crankshaft wont turn should i just scrap the engine and find a rebuilt one?
...tks
