So I am installing a backup camera in my 2002 Ranger.

I am trying to avoid having to tap into the backup lights for power to the camera. Also, I want to avoid having to run wires under my truck into the cab through the firewall to the head-unit etc.

I have thought about going wireless video transmitter, but tonight I experimented.

I found the Trailer light hookup underneath the rear bumper. This already had 12V power! Which is great. It turns on when I turn on my lights. I like this feature for the camera.

My question is: Can I use the other wires in the harness (blinkers left and right) to send my video and mono audio signal to my head-unit? These wires should be connected to somewhere inside my cab right? That would solve all my problems!!

Thoughts anyone?

 

Trailer tow connector

brown/white:
Hot with headlights or parking lights
Starts at the trailer tow relay in the underhood Distribution Box

yellow:
Hot with brake/left turn
Starts at fuse 3 in the dash fuse panel

dark green:
Hot with brake/right turn
Starts at fuse 7 in the dash fuse panel

All 3 of the wires referenced above pass through the same wire bundle discussed in your other thread - driver side of the tranny tunnel under the carpet/mat.

white:
Ground for all trailer lights
Bolts to floor under the carpet/mat below the front edge of the driver seat
