Where is the dome light relay? (2005 Ranger Edge)

My dome light is intermittent when opening either door.

Today I took the passenger side door apart and pulled the connector off the door latch. I shorted the two pins together on the connector to simulate the door opening and the light came on.

I repeated this several times with varying results. Sometimes it came on, sometimes it didn't. What I did notice is that there is a relay clicking everytime I short them together. You cannot hear the relay when you are opening the door due to the door handle and latch noise.

SO, I believe the relay, though it is clicking, has bad contacts in it and it needs to be replaced. However I cannot find this thing! It sounds like it is in the RH (passenger side) kick panel, but it must be hidden. I took the kick panel completely out and even removed the fuse panel. Even flipping the glove box out of the way reveals nothing.

Good grief! How hard can this be anyway! :-)

Update: I just looked at the schematic and it appears this relay is in the "Smart Junction Box". So, where is the Smart Junction Box at?

you gotta be upside down and relatively skinny to do this.
its located under the entire panel. oem is black or sometimes red. mine is red.

hard to find . get a Haynes manual to know exactly where its at cus your'e not goi8ng to be seeing what your doing most of the time; especially with the console in.

On a 2005 Ranger the relay will be in the Smart Junction Box(SJB), passenger cab kick panel, with the fuses, and this relay looks to be part of the Battery Saver Relay
I am assuming 3.0l engine and 2WD, it probably doesn't matter but for future reference you should include:
year
engine
trans
2wd/4wd

here is the PDF wiring diagram

"Low current board" is the "brains", it was called GEM and then Body computer module, now SJB.
It activates the Dome light relay when Door ajar switch is activated
These door ajar switches are a known issue, so have a look at fixes for those, usually a spray of WD40 fixes them

2005 owners manual should have location of relays and fuses in the SJB
You can get that here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
