remote start

ok so i work at discount tire and today i pulled out this excursion and parked it and i just hit lock a few times on the key fob til the horn beeped. well after the horn beeped i think i must have hit it a couple more times and it cranked up.

i know it was remote start but i have never seen it done through the factory key fob. this isnt a factory thing is it?

Mine has a DEI system with a remote start using the factory FOB. I ordered the truck with "factory remote start", but the system was actually installed at the dealer before they gave me the truck.

I don't think the option on new cars is all that much, but I don't know what the dealer charges. I put a good remote start system on my GF's car and it cost about 250 installed...

I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't really that bad. The only reason I had them do it was becasue I thought I was getting a "Ford Factory Installed Unit". If I had known it was something aftermarket and the dealer installed it, I would have just a friend that owns an auto stereo shop to install it. I'm sure it would have been cheaper than what I paid from Ford.

I'd love to have remote start. Here in New England remote start is awful nice. Folks recommend you let the engine warm before putting load on it (before driving it). I'm usually not that patient. Instead I just drop it in gear and go. I'd sure be nice to be able to give the poor truck a 5-min head start on those real cold mornings.

Unfortunately all of these systems advertise as 'not for manual trans'! And since I'll be damned if I'll ever drive a slush box..

dude thats nonsense. you can use it on a manual but you have to leave it out of gear when you park it. just start using the ebrake
