Door Ajar Switch Problems.

I'm playing with a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT. It's a 2 door supercab,, 4WD, 4.0L V6, power locks and windows, tilt & cruise, and I believe that it only has rear wheel ABS... If there's anything else I need to list, let me know.

My dome light is not shutting off. The “Door Ajar” light, on the instrument panel is lit. Both doors are extremely finicky. When I'm inside the truck, with the key in the ignition, if I don't slam the door hard enough, the buzzer will keep buzzing. If I slam it too hard, the buzzer will keep on going. If you slam it just right, it will stop. This is a real PITA!

For the door ajar light and buzzer, what position does the switch have to be in order for the light and buzzer to turn off (open or closed)

If I bypass the door switches, will it mess anything else up?

I don't care if if the dome light comes on when I open the doors, and I'm smart enough to check my own doors.

I'll break out the WD-40, then. I'll let you know how it goes.

This has come up on here several times. My truck has had the same trouble for several years, but the WD40 trick has pretty much taken care of it.

There are several reports of WD-40 will gunk up over time. I took apart sprayed with mass flow cleaner and worked it in to clean it out. Put back together, no problems after 6 months including in sub-zero temps.

its the lock actuator wearing out i had to replace mine they're not to expensive on rock auto.com and pretty easy to swap. I wouldn't try bypassing it because its tied to the power saver relay wouldn't want to come out to a dead battery all the time.
