alright when i first joined gen edge like a year or 2 ago, the first thing i found out was to use 9005 fog lights because they sell them in silverstars, that is what i always use but ive already changed out like 3-4 foglights in the past 6 months, the casings dont fog up and i cant see anything else wrong with them, is it because im using 9005's? or do some of our fog lights just not work right? they are getting expensive so i was wondering if anyone could help thanks alot.

 

i have used the silverstar 9005 in my fogs, and they only lasted about 6 months before burning out, then i switched to regular 9005s, and i have problems with the lensesfogging up, but as far as burning out, they havn't yet....... i might switch back to 9145's because they are now offered in silverstars

 

I've never used silverstars in there, I only have normal 9005's. You aren't by chance touching the glass of the bulb at any time, are you?

 

I would go with the 9145's now that Silverstars are available for that size....Like SVT mentioned....

 

I'd use sparklers sold at yur local fireworks tent, they burn out, but they are alot cheaper

 

Why that size? Is that closer to stock, or just recommended?

Mine's done the same thing, replaced one this weekend, #3 is in there now, and my truck is a year old in April.

I jsut did a complete silverstar install for a buddy today, he ordered 2 9145 or known as h10 bulbs from them..there pretty damn bright and also did his headlights..looks good

They had the buy one get one free sale on siverstars this week at auto part stores...

 

is the 9145 the same bulb in the 98-00 fogs to?

 

I found a way to seal the fog lights to not leak/fog up with water. Get a good sealant for water, I found some crazy clear flexible glue stuff at a local hardware store, it smells and seems to be a superglue type sealant. I sealed all around the bulb where it inserts into the chrome housing, took out the fogs totally and sealed around where the chrome housing inserts into the glass, and also in the front, like looking at the front of the truck, I sealed around the glass. My lights didn't fog for about a year, which was in Centralia from beating my truck up like going through crazy puddles and stuff.
Recently I was towing around my friends in a farm field on sleds, and the field was bumpy, and both of my fog bulbs shattered from shock, I have silverstars in my regular headlights and HAD sylvania cool blue 'high beam' bulbs in my fogs. One of the fog housings even totally fell out. I haven't replaced anything since then.

 

sorry to reply on a really old post, but i wanted to let you in on something if you already didnt know.

i have 4 PAIRS of silverstars on the front of my truck, i absolutly LOVE them. 9007 heads, 9005 fogs, h3 & h1's for my Hella FF1000's and Hella 500's. I have replaced the 9005 bulbs 3 times already this year, so being that i have spent SOOO much money on them damn lamps, i emailed sylvania. What i found out was that there is now a 9145 in a SS, which is sweet, and most of you should know this by reading the thread. but when i got emailed back by sylvania, i found out that the 9005 is brighter because its primarly used as a high-beem.it has more power, draws more current, and therfore creating more heat. thats why it burns up after so long, they are rated less than 60 hours. i use my fogs as daytime running lights, so they are ALWAYS on, im suprised i used to get close to a year out of them. i guess i have to switch back to the old 9145 SS.

 

I've had normal 9005 bulbs (non silverstars) in my fog lights since 2003 and they haven't burned out yet. I think I put more than 60 hours on those things in a week sometimes.

 

ya well, thru my own research I have found silverstars to be nice yes, but, the xtravision bulbs are the same brightness, and last ALOT longer. so, i have xtravisions in my headlights - going on over a year - knock on wood, and i have stock 9005's in my fogs. I had xtravision bulbs in my fogs, but my old fogs leaked a lil bit, and well, ice cold water vs hot glass bulb = trouble. Personnally tho, I say get the xtravision, only cause they last over 3x as long.

 

i have had my silverstars in my low beams in my jeep now since i bought it (i think in december) and i put cool blues in my fogs....i still havent had to change either one. which i think the fog light housing on my jeep is lot more sealed up then the rangers.
