door locked with engine running
Ok, so last week I had an issue where I started my truck and started to drive away and forgot my phone... Backed up and ran inside the house only to find that my doors were locked and the engine was running. This really bites!
So I get into the manual last night and find that it says "this is an issue that I have to take to the dealer to activate"?
Now this really bites...
Is this really the case? Is this something I have to spend money to adjust?

in other words, you locked your keys in your truck, while it was running. and you want to know if you have to take it to the dealer to have "activated". activated, as in what? did you get your truck unlocked? or what happened. appears you got back in your truck, so it shouldnt be a big deal?

Never seen that in my manual, or is this an issue with an alarm, if you have one? I believe it's a safety thing when locking the doors after you close them, my alarm does that. So it might be something a shop can program if they have a bitwriter. I can't imagine Ford deactivating a safety device like that.

I know Explorers have an Autolock feature when the car is put into gear it locks. I don't know if it unlocks after it is put into park. But on an Explorer to deactivate you can:
1
Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key to "On."
2
Press the "Unlock" button on the door panel three times. Turn the key to the "Off" position.
3
Press the "Unlock" button three times again. Turn the key to the "On" position. Press the "Unlock" button one time.
4
Press the "Lock" button. Turn the key to the "Off" position.

On page 65 of my owners manual it states the "Deactivating/activating power door lock disable feature" can be Deactivated/activated by an authorized dealer.
On my F-150, the doors automatically lock when you put the truck in grae and move about 4 or 5 miles an hour or then apply the brakes... and it won't lock the doors with the key in the ignition and motor running.
Had AAA come out and they placed a wedge in between the passenger side doors and reached in and hit the unlock button... Glad I had AAA!!!
Didn't like the way they did it!

Is there a way to "Activate" that safety feature in your manual???

PATS has nothing to do with the door locks...all it does is prevent the motor from starting unless a properly programmed key is used

Well, I just found this, maybe it will help
If you have a late model Ford truck you can enable or disable the auto-lock feature by follow the directions below. Generally the auto-lock feature is turned on by the factory when the truck has an automatic transmission and it is turned off from the factory on trucks with a manual transmission.
Start in the truck with all doors closed and the key turned off.
Put the switch in the on position and press the door unlock button 3 times.
Put the switch in the off position and press the door unlock button 3 times.
Put the switch in the on position, you should hear a quick note from your horn.
Press the door unlock button 1 time then press the door lock button 1 time.
You should hear a short note from your horn indicating that the auto-lock system is disabled. If you hear a short note then a longer note from the horn then the auto-lock system has just been enabled.
Turn the switch to the off position. You will hear a short note from the horn to let you know that the system has been changed.
These steps should be done within 30 seconds in order to properly activate or deactivate the feature.
The system will in most cases revert back to the original setting anytime you disconnect the battery. I understand that these directions will work on any late model Ford vehicle but I have only performed it on the Ford trucks.

I tried this twice, and everything was correct right down to the letter including the final confirmation beep... Truck still does not auto lock the doors after starting up and driving away.
Looks like a trip to the Ford dealer.

How To Disable AutoLocks
I am trying to enable the autolock...The only thing that I am not doing is
1. Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed. It is automatic. Although in step # 12 it states to return to step #10 and looks as if you do that again (step 10 & 11)... Maybe that what I am missing... I'll try that.
