Ok so I have an Escort X50 radar and bought the hardwire kit. I mounted it on my windshield above the mirror and ran the wire through the head panel, down the A pillar and under the dash. I grounded it, now i need to tap into a 12 volt wire, to use as a power source. I cant find one, or dont know of one, and I dont wanna keep tapping into wires. I also dont have a voltmeter so thats screws me over. No, i dont have enough wire to go to a fuse box or battery. Anybody know of an existing wire down there i could tap into???

 

When you open the drivers side door there is a panel on the side of the dashboard. Pop that off and wire it there. I will get a picture tomorrow of what I wired mine into.

 

If your looking for a more permanent solution.. do a search on a custom breaker box.. I dont remember who it was, but someone actually ran a dedicated power and grounding line off the battery into teh vehicle, and followed it up with a complete breaker box kit and mounted it in the vehicle. That way, you can run anything youw ant straight to it, and wont have to worry about overloading anything or getting a bad ground.

 

hook it to the power wire for the radio.

mine is hooked to my OHC.

 

I got the escort hardwire kit tapped to the radio.


Downside is the detector comes on in the acc position.

 

thanks guys, i figured it out.

i actually used some leftover wire, extended the kits' wire using it, and ran it thru a hole in the front of the cab and into the engine bay to tap into (i used a t-connection) my existing wire from the 12 volt in bed outlet mod i did. its on constant, i dont care, i just turn when i dont need it
