keys - door locks?

every time i put my key into my lock i find that the only way to unlock the door is to hit the key in with my hand a few times and turn it rigiht then left. Both keys act the same way, on both doors. im thinking (hoping) that its just that both keys are worn out. has anyone had this type of problem? Also would anyone know how i could get a replacement key with some type of code off the truck and not off the old keys

its a 99 ranger

Before you give up on the keys, try some lock lubricant. You may just have sticking pins in the tumblers. If it comes to that, the Ford dealer may be able to retrieve your key code from your VIN to cut replacement keys.

I am havign the same problem. My ignition works fine so I think it is the lock mechanism. Woudl it be cheaper to jsut make the locks automatic adn have a remote entry, rather than replace the locking mechanism?

my ignition also works fine, i still havent been able to try the lube, but ive got a technique down that works well to unlock the door, still not perfect though cuz id rather have a good working door lock... let me know if you ever solve your issue. the lube for the doors is a dry lubricant like graphite

Did anyone ever find a resolve to this issue? Mine has been doing the same for some time and it's just now gotten to the point it's bugging me enough to try to fix it.

The last '00 Ranger I had did the same thing..., but I suspect that was due to using duplicated keys....
This '00 Rangers lock mechanisms work fine.
