Has anyone else had a problem with their ABS kicking on when they are nearly stopped. I have no ABS light on the dash but when I come up to a stop sign and nearly get completely stopped, my ABS kicks in. This happens on dry pavement, no loose gravel or anything to cause it. Turning the wheel left or right does not affect it either. I would estimate my speed to be 3-5 mph at most. I checked the resistance on my sensors with a multimeter and the results were as follows..
Front Drivers side - .39 Kohms
Front Pass Side - .44 Kohms
Rear Diff ABS Sensor - 1.90 Kohms

Does anyone know if these numbers are within spec?

.8 - 1.4 kilo-ohms (4x2) front
.38 - .48 kilo-ohms (4x4) front
.8 - 2.5 kilo-ohms rear

 

On this website, I found different resistance values for the rear sensor which would put my sensor out of spec....

The years mentioned are 99-2000. But I checked the part numbers for the rear sensor on RockAuto and the part number matches the one listed for a 2001 Ranger. Anyone know which resistance value is correct?

 

I just checked the Ford Service CD and it lists the following specs....
So my sensors are all within spec. It does say to check resistance between the pins on the other side of the connector to test for a short from there to the control module. I will do that this weekend.

 

Go for a test ride and when you are slowing down to a stop let go of the steering wheel. Which ever side the truck pulls to is the good side. The oposite side is bad. The computer is releasing the brake on the bad side and thats why it pulls to the good side...been there.

 

But if it is only the rear it shouldnt pull either way. But for testing the front that sounds like a good idea. Make sure it is a flat road.

disconnect the ABS sensors in the front blow them out a little bit and reconnect them Thats what I did when they started doing it me again. hasn't done it since

 

Mine does this sometimes when the rear brakes are wet and lock up, then it has an abs event.

 

Mine occasionally does it with the front brakes when just about stopped. Used to do it with the rears,but that was because my shoes were almost completely worn out.

My ABS light never comes on though. I find it does it more in wet or damp weather, and seldomly when dry.

 

Mine did it all the time. Dry pavement. Pretty much doubled my stopping distance and would turn the wheel either way, it was a challenge to keep it straight, and not hit anything. It never did it when I got my mechanic to take it out, or my dad, or anybody. But it happened probably every time i drove at some point. I finally had it disconnected, and left it like that.

 

mine does it all the time! on the schedule for tomorrow to look at it. bleed ur brakes you might have air in the line. simple way to rule that out.

 

it happens to mine every now and then. i have also gotton the tires to skreech under normal stopping.

 

whats abs?
