i have been having problem with my daylighters not coming on when i hit the switch. Well after 3 days of palynd with them i was moving the truck around tonightand turned them on while in park with the e-brake on, but when i took the brake off the lights turned off. i checked and have power to both lights and the grounds are good, but hpw can the e-brake be turning the lights on and off?

 

sounds like a bad connection to me. You will just have to chase down all connections and check for exposed wire.

 

i traced down all the wires and no problems were found.

 

What are you grounding too? i had that problem with my old jeep and moved the ground to the other side of the jeep, started working. Problem appeared after 3months working fine.

 

i have the lights grounded to the light bar and the switch is grounded by the air bag computer, there is a ground screw there from the factory

 

Bad switch,relay,ground,or connection. Try grounding it strait to the frame first off

 

At the relay jump term 30 to 87 and see if the lights come on. If they work that way, the problem is either in the switch power feed or the relay ground.

 

well the lights worked for about the last 6 months so why would the ground start acting up now? The lights are only 100w so no relay

 

No relay?? I got some Hela 55w lights and they have a relay.

 

How did you check this?

Your running the lights off the switch? Thats roughly 14 amps going through the switch. Is it rated for that much current?

Try jumping the switch and see if they light up.

Any auto parts store will have a relay, I wouldn't be surprised if you fried all of the wiring.

 

all the wiring is fine

the do have relays, hundreds of them in fact but i havent figured out one that works with the off road lights

 

Stop by Radio Shack and ask for part number 275-001 or Autozone and look in the trailer wiring or lighting section...SPST four prong 12v 40 amp is what you want.

 

the swiych i have is rated for either 20 or 30 amp can remember which, its dark out now but the only thing i can think is that i have my cb mounted my my e-brake and thats the only ground that i did not check. i have the switch and cb on the same ground. As far as checking the power i us a power meter at th terminal ny the lights and at the switch and good power at both. And i got the dual light package from kc and it had all the wiring in it and they say you don't need a relay until you have there 150w lights

 

how would i wire 2 wires into a 4prong?


EDIT: the wiring kit i ordered claims it can handle 2 100w lights and that is what im running

 

If its a three term switch the only ground would be for the switch illumination. It wouldn’t effect the switches operation.

When you get a chance, try jumping the power feed to the switch over to the term going to the lights and see if they come on.

 

all driving/fog lights need a relay. they save your electrical system from overloads and fire if someone installs they're wiring wrong. and if your running 100 watt lights you DEFINETLY need a relay.

 

Sounds like ya got it grounded like you would on an in dash dvd player. You know they work only when you have the brake on. I would try moving the ground somewhere else like mentioned above. And I agree with the masses, you need a relay.
