Gear selector position

I know this has been covered but I can not find it. How do you adjust the gear selector so it is aligned with P R N D 2 1? Like I said I have seen it somewhere before but can not find it. Thanks in advance.

My 94' has a tiny gear on the indicator cable once the dash trim is removed that adjusts the position of the indicator needle (it's right beside the steering column once dash bezel is removed). I imagine it could be the same for your 99' . . .

I was mistaken on the amount of trim needing removed but I outlined the adjuster itself behind the column trim:

Forgive the dusty/dirty interior, the truck has been sitting in a shop for a year.

On a 98 and newer truck you have to remove the plastic and the metel pieces under the column. Once removed you will see the cable, it is directly bottom center. There is a little wheel made on the cable for adjustment.

Very carefully try spinning it back in the other direction it should go.

On 95-up (or when ever they changed the interior) look like this:

Lay on your back and look on the "passenger side" of the steering and you'll see it. You should be able to reach it with out removing anything. I need to do mine either tomorrow or tuesday...

(upper center, not the thing under my fingers)

Heres another pic. the 2 bolt holes in the right center of the pic are where the hood release goes. Right in the center you see a small white piece with a black circle...thats it. The black circle is the bolt holding it in NOT the adjuster. the adjuster is a small wheel on that same piece of white plastic.

Other useless info:
The green, blue, red and white wires on the top are the PATS wires.
The yellow tube in the middle is your multifunction switch wires.
The big white block on the left is where all of your ignition wires connect.

Anybody have any pics for '99-up?

I have a 2000 and the damn thing won't stay...or start in park.

All I can find looks like it's at the tranny and is a single bolt on a rocker type (shift) control box.

Is this all I have to work with?

I found my fix.
There are two Torx bolts on the selector at the column that had come loose.
Here's a pic for another possible solution.
PS. alan wrench works just fine for them.

That sounds like a tranny problem. Because what these guys did was adjust the needle to show what they are in. So it was cosmetic. Your problem is it won't stay in park, sounds like you need to check the tranny.

There is an adjustment made at the tranny. Bob (rwenzing?) answered it for me when I was having the same issue.
