Anyone ever tried installing power locks/windows/cruise control on a 4-banger?

Icon5 Anyone ever tried installing power locks/windows/cruise control on a 4-banger?

I was looking over the prices for new 4 cyl Rangers and something snagged my attention. We all know cruise control, power locks and windows aren't available as options for the base model XL Ranger with the 2.3L, but has anyone tried installing any of these options themselves?

Call me cheap, but it really would be a hell of a lot cheaper to install these aftermarket goodies on a basic XL than to drop nearly $20,000 on a XLT model. Especially if you're just looking for another gas saving 4-cyl like myself.

Plus, used low mileage '06-'07 4-bangers sell for around $4,500-$6,500 around my neck of the woods. If anyone has any knowledge about these mods I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks guys.

Also, I hope I put this in the correct forum.

I don't know about the whole cruise issue but I'd think it would be alot of work and the power window/lock/mirror swap was just done by Martine and according to him it is pretty easy, he posted videos on what to do.

yea im about to do the cruise upgrade as i just pulled a steering wheel with tilt steering and clock spring. remember you have to take the entire steering wheel shaft. also you will need the engine harness from your year preferably because it has one extra switch at the end of the harness over on the passenger side under the hood. and also take the cruise control module which connects to this switch.

please note that i gaurantee that you will need the engine harness too because you have a basic model.

I was thinking more along the lines of using aftermarket kits and parts for the installs instead of parts from a junked Ranger. It just seems like there would be a lot less work involved this way and I would know exactly what would/wouldn't fit.

I saw a couple pics of a guy's 1997 F-150 that had an aftermarket power window kit installed and it looked absolutely factory. He said it was about as difficult as installing a new CD player. I found the below web site that sells every kind of kit I'm looking for except for cruise control and they all seem to be universal and fairly simple to install.

Car Alarms, Remote Car Starters, Keyless Entry & Car Accessories
