Ingition Switch

Hello

I just joined the forum looking for some info, but i noticed i couldnt find anything with my limited knowledge of english.

If someone can point me to the right direction i would appreciate it.

The problem is, that someone tried to steal my 1994 ranger XLT, it was one night 1 month ago, i was half naked in my couch watching an "Entertaining" show when i heard some noise outside, i looked by the window and there were 2 strange people inside my ranger i said "What the frell" opened the door and ran into the street in boxers yelling and making strange noises, also my with my man ***** bouncing (like this , yes im kinda chubby), so the thiefs got scared pretty quickly and ran away. but hey, enough with the story of how it happened, the point is that after that day my ranger has trouble "sometimes" starting after turning it off for example at a gas station after refilling.

Aparently they tried to force the ignition switch but they didnt succeded due to my heroic action that night.

When it fails to start like that i have to go from off to on several times till i hear the gas pump kicking in (so its the switch that sometimes forgets to tell the pump to start pumping)

Please help me, i tried finding a "How To" in changing the ingition switch or whatever that got broken that cold night with no luck

Any info would be really helpful.

Thanks.

well if its your ignition switch, its underneath the dash, take off the plastic cover and then underneath you will have a big metal piece take that off. disconnect the wiring and there will be a screw you undo and the switch will just pop out. I would like to say your story made me chuckle lol.

There are 2 parts in this assembly. The switch mounted under the column and the lock cylinder, which sounds broke to me.

Whenever im half naked watching an "entertaining show" I park my truck in the garage with the door closed.

Thanks for the replies ill look into it, i already disasembled the cover but i didnt took the metal casing off ill do it when i buy the remplacement, so its the lock cylinder or the switch? (or they are sold as one?)

Also will i have 2 keys? one to open doors and other to start the engine?

And i live in a place with no garage, i have to park my truck in the street :(, i dont think those thiefs will come back tho, i heard they had to go to a psychologist after that night.

they are sold as 1...and yes you will have 2 keys unless you have the key code plate that came with your truck to rekey the new cylinder to your doors

Hey Victor, I'm from Monterrey.

You truck doesn't have an alarm? Gotta install one, man.

You should be looking for a way to install a shut-off switch, so when you turn off your truck, you 'off' the switch and truck will start but won't be far gone due to the lack of gas on the line.

There's a OEM parts store here in Mty that may have the switch.

Hey neighbor, it doesnt have alarm i didnt think this trucks were easily robbed like for example a tsuru (wich i always say it would even start using a toothpick).

A friend told me maybe autozone has the replacement, but i had difficulties in the past with them (i couldnt find the gasoline hose wich one day sudenly broke) because its an US ranger

AND it has something under the steering wheel that looks very similar to my previous voyager fuel pump energy cut, but i dont really know what it is, and i think its disabled because it doesnt have the thing you plug in it.
