Hello everyone,


Got my hands on a new 2010 Ranger Sport runs great, very young, hasn't even turned 3 yet (Thats a Canadian 3, 3000km's so hasn't turned 1865 mi yet for the American perspective).

The other day, literally, tuesday of this week, I was under the hood and I noticed something disturbing. Several cracks have formed on the fiberglass mounting plate between the radiator support mount and the plastic grill. Took it in to see the local ford service manager who said he's never seen anything like it. There is no evidence of an accident (I have never been in an accident with this vehicle), but there are two side mounting bolts still on the fiber glass section which seemed to be either forced backward, or the plate was pulled forward.

Two options occurred to him, 1 obviously some form of collision which therefore means im sh*t outta luck warranty wise after not even owning my truck for a year.

The second possible explanation could be the that the fiber glass in this space has been at trouble from the manufacturers end - possibly that x% of components not made properly. What I mean specifically is that this piece of fiber glass has undergone a thermal expansion and contraction wherein stress cracks have formed as a result of the differential heating between the engine cavity and the cold outside.

Ive posted some pictures. I didn't pursue it getting fixed because other people might not notice it and so I can keep my warranty. So far to reduce the spread I've just covered it with some super-glue.

Anyone have thoughts or suggestions? Anyone else experience a similar scenario?

 

The Service manager obviously prefers the impact version of the solution. Wasn't too fond of my physics explanation.

 

just go get a new header panel (thats what the piece is you are referring to), good as new. But with a 2010 model, it should be covered under warranty, tell them to fix it

 

Yeah, problem with that is trying to convince any sales person or service manager that there was no accident involved... sweet truck picture btw.
