Hood release

I just went out to install my new corners and my hood release won't work. I pull all I want but the hood doesn't pop up. Is there any other way to open the hood?

when an old car hood wont come open usually you can hit the top of the hood on each side of the latch simoultaneously and eventually it will pop

Mine has the same problem. What is is is the corner supports (the rubber shims on the corners) probably broke and fell through the front support causing the hood to sit flush with everything. What that does is doesn't provide the support to put tenson on the release spring. The easiest way to open the hood is to get a buddy who is willing to help you for a quick second, have you or him stand and pull up on the hood while the release is released and it should pop up like normal. I found this out the hard way when my negative cable fell off my battery while at REI in Littleton, 30 miles away from home and had to call my roadside program to get a tow home

I have the same problem... I shove something inbetween the grille and the hood, like a sharpee marker, pliers, or something of that width, then pull the hood latch and it pops up. Hope that'll work for ya.

Question... is this becoming a problem now with the 98 and newer Rangers, more specifically the 01- current??? There's 3 thus far who have it.

If the cable is still attached then get someone to push the hood down while you pull the handle.

No give if the shims are gone. All you'll do is push the entire truck down. Pulling up is the easiest way to pop it!

Mine was due to a rogue shopping cart incident... I was pushing it out of my way with the truck, and it kinda got in between the hood and the grille, then got pushed in by an unseen curb. Thats when my latch stopped working.

Esentially, that is the same thing as putting pliers in between the hood

I'll run down in a bit here and snap some pics of how my hood sits and where the issue lies for future reference, but it seems we all have an understanding for it. Glad I'm not the only one who has to do a 2 man op to get under the hood

I can say, on my current 01, I had the little hood offset break on me.. thankfully I never had a problem with the hood latch, but i spent 20 bucks and bought a replacement and a coupel extras.. sitting in the rig right now in the glove box.. I woudl ratehr have it with me incase the other one decides to break for any reason.

The hood is sitting fine, the latch just doesn't do anything when I pull the cable. I'm thinking that I might not have installed the latch back right when I put in my new header panel lol. I'll try getting someone to help me with it tomorrow. I really want to install these things!

Are you sure your not doing a "senior" thing. A few weeks ago I pulled on the hood release for 10 minutes and NOTHING happened. After much cussing and thinking I had a busted cable I realized I wad pulling on the emergency brake release.

I can legally claim "senior moment."

Yeah same here it's driving me crazy sitting here looking at these corners. Tomorrow it will be open one way or another, hopefully that way turns out not to be permanent lol.

I'm having to pull the release with my right hand and slam the side of my fist down on the rear corner at the same time to get it to pop up.I'm checking today to see if I can adjust the corner stops.
