this is strange...

ok sometimes after a long trip - my oil temp guage will go nutz-o on me - like eraticly jumping around. i have plenty of oil, thats not the problem. just dont understand why. it does it periodically - and sometimes when it does that and im coming to a stop it feels like it wants to die on me... no bueno.

any suggestions?

its on an 02 ranger edge 3.0 v6 reg cab....

A sticking IAC may be causing the low idle problem. Cleaning it may fix it but replacement is a more likely solution.

If the idle is low enough, it can let the oil pressure drop to the point that the oil pressure sending switch will open. When that happens, the gauge will drop to zero or jump between zero and midscale.

The sending switch itself is not too reliable and this may be an early symptom that it too is on its way out.

I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Spray a bunch in there, let it dry, and replace it. I found that mine had some crap in there even after cleaning it so a q-tip fixed that up. Seems when I was running my K&N, a bunch of oil must have migrated to it.

Cleaning your MAFS w/ some electrical contact cleaner made by CRC can't hurt either.

Mass Air Flow Sensor, the sensor mounted on your air box.

I'm jus sayin it's refered to as the MAF, most people wouldn't recognize MAFS, which sounds different. There's also MAP, IAC, which would both have "s" on the end.

Tomato tomoto!

Double pay if you have a badass job! Every July 4th I get paid bank. I make 13 bucks an hour and get paid double(kinda holiday pay or something) so I make 26 bucks an hour x 10 hours of work = 260. Oh, and i dont go to work, i jus get paid for that day.

Nights are for moddin! Heated garage is the best.
