I hate these weird noises

Why is it that I can always find the noises noone else can? Since it has been getting cold at night, I get a tapping or clicking when I start up my truck. IT doesn't change whether its idling or being given gas. Doesn't do it when the air temp goes above 45. It seems to go away when the engine heats up enough to start giving heat. Mech. hasn't had it happen for him. Any suggestions?

So, if its the lifters, what's invovled in the fixin'? Is it something I need to get done immediately?

The fact that it doesn't change with the gas being pressed says it's NOT lifters.

It could just be your exhaust expanding. Have you listened outside the truck and underneath to see better where it's coming from? Is it definitely from "inside" the engine?

not if its only doing it on startup... the lifters are hydraulic and when they get several miles on them, they will bleed down overnight, when its cold it takes longer for the oil to pump them back up... when they start doing it more than starup, or get louder, then i would worry about it

well i mean i can hear it pretty loud...especially if i am like up next to a wall...what could the problem be?

The truck does have 254,000 miles on it. I can't say its definitiely the engine. I hear it more towards the front of the truck, so I assumed its in the engine. But it definitely does not click faster because it is being given gas. Its just as steady as when the truck is in idle. I need the engine to see 400,000 miles for a family bet. You know one of the Chevy vs. Ford. I win, I get any Ford Truck I want under $45,000. Good dela huh, if we can make it those miles.

I thought I was the only one who turned up the radio and said what noise. That's how I lost my clutch. What flywheel noise? OF course, according to the mech., I actually welded part of my pilot bearing to the housing. Something he never saw before on a ranger.

ya i have the same noise like when i pull up to a Wendys drive up and i can hear the ticking bouncing off the brick wall, it also 30* hear i just stoped trying to notice it
