Both the oil pressure and the tempeture gages on my 90 ranger 2.9 stopped working at the same time any ideas?

 

Sounds like a ground wire.

 

That would make sense if both gages are displaing computer outputs (then it could be a bad ground in the instrument cluster) and not real signals from the sensors but worth further checking.

 

nope, they aren't real signals from sensors, that can most easily be seen by turning the ignition off, and the gauges drop to zero... however, you have an oil pressure gauge on your truck?

 

Yes,it's an analog oil pressure gage. It isn't scaled in lbs but indicates between Low and High.

Good luck fixing that. I have had problems with the gas gauge, oil pressure and coolant temp for a year. I have changed the gauges, sending units and now have a used cluster panel to swap out. It is a ***** of a problem!!
Let me know it you fix that one. Mine is a 90 4.0.

take a look at the oil pressure sensor that is connected to the oil pan... see if the wire is broken... you might need to change the sensor...

 

there is no oil pressure sensor in the oil pan, there is an oil LEVEL sensor, this is usually hooked up to a trouble light on the dash... it will not come on if there is no pressure though, the pressure sensors have to be installed between the pump and the heads, usually about 1/4 of the way up the block

 

Thanks for the feed back, at least I should look at something else thats common to these circuits. Hope fully your instrument cluster does the trick, I will post whatever I find
