About 2 or 3 months ago, I added a second amplifier and a subwoofer to my Ranger. Everything sounded great until a few weeks ago. Driving down the road, I hit a bump and my audio cut out on me, however the radio and EQ were still working properly. After restarting my radio, then my truck, I turned the radio off in disgust. I turned on my radio on the way home, and oddly enough, it worked again.
As time went on, the problem got worse. Eventually I found that if I hit my gas, sometimes the system would pop back on and I'd be in business. This lead me to believe that somehow I had torn apart a connection to my remote wire because it runs down by my gas pedal.
So today I have some free time, I remove my seat which the 4ch amp resides under and start fiddling around. I replace my remote wire with a new wire, and for some reason, only the subwoofer turns on. I check the fuse on the amp and its fine. Then I bump around in the truck looking for a spare fuse, replace it and notice that nothing is working. I think to myself, great... I blew the fuse by the battery. I go there only to find that my lead to the battery was hardly connected and the reason for my system going in and out... Great, I removed all that crap for nothing.
I go back and test things out to find that my 4ch still isn't working, however the subwoofer sounds great! After looking things over again and thinking about putting a thread up on here, or checking out ebay for a new amplifier and how I'm going to tell the wife, I remember... my ground wire was connected to my seat which is now out of the truck.
So, I touch the ground wire to a ground and everything's working again... but now its raining so I can't put it back together. F WORD!!! This whole ordeal could have been saved by checking out my battery connection weeks ago. Hopefully I won't have wet *** after my drive to a Halloween party tonight.
