Auto Dimming Mirror

I am going to put my OHC back in soon and was wondering if the auto dimming mirror be worth it. The whole idea seems pretty nice but exactly how much do these things dim and how fast?
I guess I'm saying that if they can't dim more then the regular mirror simply flipped down then I'm not really interested.
I know I want the Windstar mirror because of the smoothness of the look, any particuar year I should be interested in?

I actually went with an 05 expo mirror. Decided I liked the shape more and don't really care to much for the auto lights. Just has an on off button. Looks pretty good anyway an was only $15. Not bad. Just need the wiring diagram for it now.
