200 amp alt installed !!!

I finally got around to installing my 200 amp alternator. I ran 1/0 cable for it with a 200 amp circuit breaker. For right now it's connected to the stock battery terminal, but I'm not happy with the way it looks. So I'm going to put on one of those terminals the stereo guys use and clean it up.

While I'm thinking about it, does anyone know what the yellow wire (with a fusible link) is that was attached to the stock 6g cable running over to the alt?

edit: fixed pic links

Thanks guys !!!! A buddy owns a car stereo shop here (Truckin Thunder), so he hooked me up with the breaker, wire, & crimp ends. I would assume that any "high end" car stereo shop would have access to them. I believe they're kind of expensive (not sure of price, I didn't pay anything close to retail), but it appears to be worth it. I should've gotten the battery terminal while I was there, but of course I know better then he did and "didn't need it",,,,lol. Anyway, I'll slide back by this week, and pick it up so I can clean up the battery.

AutoZone and Advance Auto has the circuit breakers, I think they're about 20$ or so. I got a 200A one for my stereo power wire at a stereo shop for 30$ but it's almost exactly the same as the AutoZone one.

SWEET!! Thats about 1/2 the cost of what I was planning on spending. I sent a message to the vendor to see if he can get one for a 2005 with the correct pulley size.
Question: The main power lead going from the battery to the alt. which you replaced...this wire(factory) doesn't go anywhere except from point A to point B? Doesn't go through the main fuse box under the hood?

In the factory configuration, the positive cable doesn't go through the Battery Junction Box but it does bolt to a pair of studs at the front of the box. This powers the bus bar for the main distribution fuses inside. From that bolt-on connection, the cable continues through a set of fusible links to the alternator.

Another cable (part of the same factory positive cable assembly) goes to the starter.

i have my 130 amp alternator hooked directly to the battery with 4 awg power wire and a 150 amp fuse to protect it from serging! i also left the factory wire in place

Bob beat me to it. It's a strange design if you ask me. You have 2 cables coming from the positive terminal to the distribution block. Joined to one of those cables is another cable (with 2 small fusible links) that runs to the alternator. Joined to the other cable is another cable that runs to the starter.

I did not want the stock cable from the alternator dangling around my engine compartment, so I was **** enough to trace it back completely through the wiring harness, back to the distribution block, and cut it off from the positive cable that ran between the distribution block and battery. Talk about a MAJOR PITA !!!!!!!!

Bob, there was a yellow wire with a fusible link attached to the stock cable from the alternator, and joined to the battery cable in the same spot as the 2 fusible links to the alt. The yellow wire just comes up out of the wiring harnes from out of nowhere. Do you have any idea what this wire is? For the time being (until I can figure out what it's for), I just have it connected to the battery terminal. So far everything seems to be working as normal.

The yellow/white supplies current to the alternator's field coil. How much current goes through the field coil is controlled by the regulator. The higher the current through the field coil, the greater the output from the alternator.

so if i was to attach that wire to the new 4 gauge power wire from the alternator or directly to the battery, that would help in power output from the alternator?

Thanks guys.
The vender got back to me & he doesn't carry 1 for an 05 SOHC 4.0 so it looks as though I'm stuck paying $270 for a new one. So..would it hurt to just leave the original in place hooked up @ both ends & just add 1 4G wire from the Alt. to the Battery with a breaker or inline fuse?

what dont they make for an '05 SOHC 4.0? if it is the battery terminals that are in the ebay auction, they are universal and will fit any battery......if it is the high output alternator, contact www.jusnesmodified.com....they have high outputs for a good price!

Its the 200 amp rebuilt alt. & he says he doesn't have 1 to fit. Yea, Jusnes is where its going for $270 new for a 200 amp & where I'll be getting it from. I've done business with him several times including the underdrive pulley, gator belt & I believe the SCT programmer.

You must keep the alternator wired like stock or else the regulator won't work properly. Upping the gauge of the main carriers is OK but keep the circuitry the same.

If the regulator wire is attached to a cable running between the battery and the distribution block, what difference would it make attaching it to the battery? Or should it be connected to the distribution block? It's in the same circuit ????

His question seemed to be asking for a way to up the alternator output by changing something in the charging circuit. What I was trying to say is that it needs to be configured the same way as stock for it to work properly. As long as the circuit remains electrically the same, it should be fine.
