99-08 FORD SUPER DUTY HIGH MOUNTED BRAKE CARGO LIGHT:eBay Motors (item 320410832045 end time Aug-15-09 14:21:56 PDT)

Is there anything special i need to to to install it? I know ill have to wire up the cargo light but will the brake light just plug in or do i have to mod the harness?

Nothing special to install or watch out for.
The three socket harness can only be purchased through Ford when you buy a new 3rd Brake light.
Most of the junk yard harnesses will be in good shape because of the harness location and most people do nothing to them so usualy they are in good shape.

I just installed an LED 3rd brake unit with Cargo lights.
Instead of looking for a harness to hook up the cargos, I converted my cargo lights to directionals; bought new sockets at teh auto parts store and hooked up the wires.
Worked out, looked a little funny at first but the high directionals gets attention.

Ben, there's nothing special about installing it. Two screws, unclip the harness, now the old ones off. Clip the new harness on the new third into the truck's harness, put it into position, tighten the screws, done.

Now, I don't know your truck's year, but if you've got a 04+ and want the cargo lights to be functional, you'll have to do a little wiring. Very simple mod. Once you do it, the cargo's will turn on whenever your dome light is on(so it's whenever the door is opened which I think is super neato and I'm gonna do it to my truck).

i know this is an old thread but what about on '03s, getting the cargo lights to work when the dome is on? what wires connect to what? and what size wires are those anyways, 22g?

Do the 04 how-to mod that I linked above. It can be done to all trucks, just it's the easiest way to make the cargo lights work on 04+ that's missing that one wire.
