Alright, I just hit the 32,000 mile mark today and have had the fuel filter in my garage for a couple weeks now. I know I should have replaced it sooner but I've been lazy and just forgot about it. I went ahead and bought the metal tool to remove the lines. I know I need to disconnect the negative battery cable and pull the fuse to relieve the fuel pressure. Anything else I need to do? Any tips before I give it a go?

Just get ready for fuel to drip down on you regardless. It's always a mess.

insert the tool into the fuel line and force it in. then turn it inside the fuel line and pull the line towards u with the tool intact. it can be a bitch to get off.

*HINT* wrap rags around ur wrists to prevent fuel from dripping down ur arm. =D enjoy

The tool costs $4.99 at Autozone. Get the metal one. I've heard they are a ton easier than the plastic ones. So just jam that tool into the line and pull towards me and I'm guessing that releases that clamp inside the end of the line? Once again, thanks a ton for this information.

yup yup, might have to take the backet holding the fuel filter off the frame and pry the lil bugger off. no biggie but a lil time consuming.

Big prix

Yeah I was trying to remove that before I got the lines off and said "screw that." As long as I don't break a line or anything of that nature I will be satisfied.

It may give you better gas mileage. Probably not a noticeable amount. And to answer your first question, yes change it!

Wow....

I used a pocketknife and just closed my eyes so gas wouldn't spray in them. It took me less than five minutes. Some people make things way too complicated.

Yes, mine has those clips also. If you look at them, they have three prongs that hold them on the fuel lines. All you have to do is release the three prongs simultaneously and it will come off. Not real hard, no "special" tool needed.
