anyone else have issues with their brakes grabbing to much when it's damp out?

Usually it's fine after a few miles but if your not ready for it, it'll activate the ABS and practically throw you threw the windshield.

Anyone know why it does this and is there any cure for it?

Ive experienced this problem also. I thought it was my gouged rotor but even when it was new I had problems with it.

 

I was thinkin it for wet rotors.

it happens sometime when i wash my truck.

 

mine does it too...just press the brakes very lightly and hold it to let the pads contact the drums as the truck is rolling. My old truck (1985 Dodge ram) did the same thing, and it didn't have abs or anything.

 

Mine does it too. I though it was the drums :/

 

same here, but its my front brakes that lock up really easily when i start driving and its wet..

 

Both of my Rangers did it. 93 and 02. Wierd. I thought it was just me!

 

my 97 and my 92 both do it.
its from the moisture causing the rotors and drums to rust.

 

Its the rust on the rotors!!! Has nothing to do with the rear drums, unless they are rusted inside there too.

After you brake a couple times the rust should clear off the rotors and it shouldnt grab after that.

 

I've had rear drums on every truck I've ever owned or driven do that.

 

IT'S DAMN REAR DRUMS!! How many times does it have to be said that is what it is. Isaid it in the beginning of the thread!
Everyone keeps saying the front but if it was it would pull your steering wheel one way or the other bad. It is not the front because the people that have rear disc brakes no longer have this issue!

 

My truck does that as does my wifes car which is 4 wheel disc.

 

I am talking rangers only. the rear disc conversion has fixed this issue on rangers. read around its true.

 

Good deal. I'm hoping to pull an explorer axle this summer. My junkyards don't have anything newer than 96 though so it might be hard for me to find and 8.8 LS with 4.10s and disc brakes.

 

I have rear discs on my Ranger and it completely eliminated the morning lockup routine. If the rotors rust up after sitting for a few days, you can feel a slight difference in friction for the first couple of stops. However, they never lock up like the drums did.

 

mine does it an i hate it... i always back out at school and my tires end us screaching lol... but its not a big enough deal to warrent 500$ for a disc conversion IMO, id go with an exploder rear if i had the welding skills...

 

it works for a while then you have to do it again. ive already been down that road.

disc brakes are a permanent fix.

the issue doesnt really bother me that much anymore actually. lol it only locks up once every morning. oh well.

once you roll with 35s those drums dont lock up that easy.

 

I just disconnected my rear drums.....It seemed to fix the problem
