Horns

Ok for Christmas i got an air horn i put it in works great. last week i wanted to put my stock horn in with my air horn to make it really loud i wired it all up and tried it i lasted about 1/2 a second and cut out i looked and the fuse had gone out. i then thought well the fuse is 15 and each horn is 12. 2 horns stock and air =12 so that’s over 15. my question is can i put a bigger fuse in the horn spot to like a 30 or is 15 the max. i mean will it do something if i do i haven’t yet but thought i should ask first thanks

I got a solution, Get a dixie horn! I got one in my ranger and my cadillac, and I have one for my Charger for when it is done. Do yourself a favor though and Get a Fiamm. Wolo's suck.

Bad advice. Wrong. No no no.

The fuse is 15 amps for a reason. Doubling it so you can overload the circuit is the perfect way to melt the harness and burn your truck to the ground. You should use the existing horn circuit to drive a relay and that can switch your massive horns without your truck having a meltdown.

DO NOT REPLACE THE FUSE WITH A BIGGER ONE

Unless he's holding down the horn for an extended period of time I wouldnt think he'd burn his car up.... but if youstill think its a bad idea

What did you wire your horns to? the old horn wiring im guessing? I dont know if i would put a bigger fuse in or not...i would try a 20 amp, and see what it does, if it blows then i wouldnt put any bigger in....

Overloading an existing circuit for any amount of time is a bad idea. Removing or defeating existing protection devices is also a bad idea. Put together creates a really bad idea. I'm sure when Papa Johnny or Bob find their way here, they will both agree.

I found a few on eBay. Not sure if you'd want to check them out, but I think I'm going to go with a pre-preprogrammed siren type, and see if they're of any use, and if not, invest in the actual air horns

I'm with Fireranger on this one. The wiring gauge is designed for specific loads. That circuit can handle 15 AMPS safely, do not bypass this feature.

It will be easier to wire in a relay, then to replace the wiring harnesses from the fuse box, to the horn and any other components you fry...

EDIT:Glad to see you learned the way of The Force, now go forth and wire that relay!

i came with a relay. with the relay do i just split a wire of the stock horn connection so it will go off. it says the horn switch wit the relay has a ground but im assuming the stock switch is grounded at the horn and the switch

You should have 3 wires on your relay.
Hot from battery
Hot from horn
Ground

Basically, you have a HOT wire from the battery going to the relay, that powers your extra horn. You need a hot wire from the existing horn, to close the connection in the relay, so the extra horn gets it's power...I can not be precise about which wire goes where, without seeing it. If your wires are marked(which they should be), tell me what they say, and I can tell you where they go.

USUALLY, there is an inline fuse on the wire that goes directly to the battery, and USUALLY the ground is a black wire with a ring terminal on it...

If you have no real wiring experience, maybe you should come to a meet, and have somebody assist you. NOT do it for you, just assist you, so you can learn in a controlled manner. Much safer/cheaper than hooking it up wrong, and frying something

Cool, if you have any other questions, I might be able to help. If you have everything torn apart and your stuck, PM me, and I can call you. I check this board a few times a day, maybe every 4-8 hours...
I have faith in you, good luck with the wiring
